Full description
Uganda like Kenya in chocolate

Bulambuli coffees come from a region in eastern Uganda, where a new washing station was established in 2022. It is there that the fruit is depulped, fermented and dried. The coffee cherries processed in Bulambuli come from 200-400 local farmers. The high altitude of the area is conducive to the production of high quality coffees. The coffee-processing process in Bulambula is carried out by specialised staff who ensure that it is carried out under precise and controlled conditions.

The varieties grown in the region are mainly SL14, SL28 and SL34, also characteristic of Kenya. The cherries come from small family farms of less than 1 hectare. These farms are located in parishes - local administrative communities comprising between 7 and 12 villages, often with a population of just 200. Farmers usually work in groups led by a designated leader.

The Eastern Ugandan coffee harvest takes place from August to January. In lower-lying areas, the season is August-October, while at higher altitudes it runs from September to January. Farmers sell the cherries at small purchasing points or deliver directly to the washing station. There, the fruit is sorted and then - depending on the method - sent to depulping (washed processing) or to the drying yard in Mbale (natural processing).
